A Short Pictorial Essay on Fluting
By: Gundobad von Dettelmach
Wise Ogre Armory

I make flutes by working both inside and outside. I use a blunted chisel to start, from the inside, and push the metal down into a groove in a wooden block.

Then, to sharpen up the appearance, I work from the outside, with a light hammer, over a stake [you can substitute the same chisel for the stake, by placing it in a vise, business end up]. Place the metal so that the stake is in the chiseled flute, and tap the outside lightly, along the line of the flute.
